What is the origin of the name Odin for this wonderful programming language? Just curious is all…
It was just a codename that stuck.
When making projects, I just give them codenames usually named after mythological figures. For this language/compiler. I just settled on Odin.
In some regards, I wish I had changed the name because “Odin” is hard to search for in search engines, but it has stuck now and there is little point in changing it.
Looks like Thor seems to be the next logical name for a project.
A new compiler for Odin
I’m a data scientist from Germany studying LLM’s ability to write code.
Of all the languages I’ve tested so far (C++, C, Java, C#, Python, Js), Odin performed the best by far in some Tests and one of my theories is that it’s because of the name and because it takes you into completely different context areas. Far away from the context area of the average Python programmer.
I don’t want to give too much away because I’m still actively researching it and it could be all wrong, but maybe the name is a blessing in disguise.
I also only came across Odin by accident because I used it in a toy project that featured it and was curious but didn’t think anything of it. But since then I’ve been working on it practically 24/7
