After porting Bob Nystroms CLox to Go and hitting various problems when trying to optimise it to approach CLox’s performance, I settled on Odin as first choice language for a higher performance version of the interpreter. Coming from Go, but with some C experience, I felt right at home. Odlox is Lox on steroids - module imports, exception handling, lists, dictionaries, tuples, Raylib bindings, a basic 3D physics world, a working Williams Defender clone, and more! And Odin allowed far more low level control of memory layout, allocation etc - Odlox is close to Cpython in performance and beats it in some cases due to runtime opcode specialisation and other tricks. I love Odin! I will admit to extensive assistance from Claude Code for the port ![]()
